DESCRIPTION
This will obviously be very different from a typical structure. Not only must it withstand desert conditions, but act as a stand-alone biomimetic organism that may grow, move freely, reproduce and/or exterminate itself. The habitable space(s) should be formed in accordance with the geographical and climatological conditions of the desert, which are quite different from those of a temperate climate. In this context, basic human needs such as eating and sleeping as well as social needs should be re-thought and spaces should be designed accordingly.
OBJECTIVES
- To develop visionary ideas about architectural formations in extreme environments
- To improve digital/parametric modelling, fabrication, representation skills
- To introduce biomimicry as a method of architectural design in understanding complex relations between form and structure.
SUBMISSION
- Poster including renderings, drawings, sketches showing your unit design, and its growth/ shrink pattern over time, and its relation to the surrounding context.
- Digital Fabrication 1/500 Site Model of 40×40 cm showing your organism on the site. The actual design should be digitally fabricated and the site should be produced as a topographical map (made out of 2 mm layers of grey cardboard) and 1/20 Partial Model showing a living unit/module/cell thus your organism should be produced.
- Website, upload digital models to Sketchfab and provide a VR glass, prepare a youtube video and provide a link to the webpage.
All the drawings, sketches, diagrams, images should be presented on a single board (a template will be provided) and be uploaded on the webpage under “Stage I – Student Works” subpage.
